When Is It The Right Time For A Breast Augmentation?

When Is It The Right Time For A Breast Augmentation?

Today, patients are more empowered that ever with options to give them the cosmetic results they desire, and the confidence they deserve. And as medical advancements continue to grow, so does the demand for plastic surgery in Michigan and beyond. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) notes that 15.6 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the U.S. in 2014. And of those, they say that breast augmentation remains one of the most-performed cosmetic surgical procedures — with the number of procedures doubling since 1997. Despite breast augmentation surgery becoming more and more common, how do you know if it’s the right time for you? Here are some things to consider.

The Right Timing

When it comes to breast augmentation, it’s key to consider your life circumstances when deciding whether it’s the right time for you to have the procedure. If you have a job that requires extensive hours with minimal time off, or if your job is manual in nature, you’ll want to take that into consideration, as time off will be required. Typically at least a week is needed for at-home recovery, sometimes longer. Further, if you have children, you’ll want to be sure your spouse or a trusted family member or friend is able to assist you with your regular parental duties after your surgery. Driving is not allowed in the first week after surgery (until you are off all pain medication), so you’ll need to make arrangements for someone to drive you and/or your children to any appointments or functions. Even something as seemingly little as walking your dog is off limits while you heal. If you are hoping to be totally recovered in time for a special occasion like a vacation, a class reunion, a wedding, or some other major life event at which you’d like to look and feel your very best, you’ll want to schedule your breast augmentation procedure at least three months in advance of the event. Reason being, swelling is not completely gone for about three months (although most of it will subside in one month). Further, exercise should be avoided for at least two weeks after surgery, as increased activity can increase swelling and, in turn, cause stretch marks. Six weeks is the general rule for starting back any exercise routine other than walking.

Financing Your Procedure

Perhaps you’ve been considering a breast augmentation for some time, and maybe you’ve even started saving for the procedure. However, like many people today, maybe putting aside extra funds is a challenge. Much like a vacation, sometimes there’s never a perfect time for getting a procedure like breast augmentation. In life, unexpected expenses will always creep up and there will always be bills to pay. Fortunately, Michigan Cosmetic Surgery offers several financing options, including CareCredit, M-Lend, United Medical Credit and Prosper Healthcare Lending. You can review these options to see which is right for you and even apply directly from our website. We also accept all major credit cards. In the end, though, the results of a breast augmentation can be life changing. And for that, no price is too much.
